If the doctor determines that the position of the fetus warrants it, a long hollow need can be inserted through the abdomen.

Amniocentesis

Paternity testing before birth can also be carried out by amniocentesis. As is often the case where court ordered paternity testing is necessary, this procedure is carried out in the 14th through the 24th week. This is also an invasive procedure unlike the more familiar versions of paternity testing, and the results here can also be used to help in the resolution of child support cases. Here the samples are collected in the form of loose fetal cells that float in the amniotic fluid that surrounds the developing baby. Once again a long needle is used to go through the abdomen here.

Traditional Tests

Of course the more traditional versions of paternity testing are not invasive and these are generally the more familiar type of this DNA testing. Here there are two divisions here in the at home procedure that cannot be used legally and the court ordered paternity testing that follows all the paternity testing laws so that the results are legally admissible .

Most of the samples are collected using the Buccal Swab which is like a regular cotton swab that is pressed against the inside of the cheek. Depending on the paternity testing laws and purpose that the client wants to use the results for, the samples can be collected at home and then processed in an accredited laboratory.

Paternity Testing Hair

As you might have expected, paternity testing has been able to come up with other avenues as well to determine the biological relationship between a man and a child. However, there are certain prerequisites that need to be followed when youre attempting to establish this relationship by paternity testing with hair.

For example, its not good enough to take a few stands from a subjects hair brush and hope to establish a relationship with that. To get the right sample you need hair that still has the roots and follicle attached.

As a general rule, three to four stands are enough to use when paternity testing with hair and the results are considered as accurate as other forms of paternity testing.

Although its the option that everyone is most familiar with, paternity testing is just one option in the DNA testing arsenal. There are other tests as well that have a variety of different applications to help people better their lives.

Still, paternity testing is at the top of the heap when it comes to the form of testing thats most widely recognized. And there are several different kids of paternity testing that are in widespread use but generally the divisions come down to the in home versus the court ordered paternity testing procedures.

Court Admissibility

The difference, as the name implies, has to do with admissibility in court. Court ordered paternity testing has some features that are quite different from the in home version. When the results of paternity testing are to be used for child support cases, there is a need to make sure that the procedure is strictly controlled and that means that the court ordered paternity test is generally carried out in a supervised facility that has been accredited by state regulators.

As well the samples that are collected in a professional manner by accredited personnel that have been properly trained are essential. There are even consent forms that need to signed often as well as confidentiality issues that need to be addressed so that the results of these tests are only disclosed to the proper authorities.
